Certification

There a number of different organizations that provide rating systems and independent third party certification of green buildings.  These are important in that they set a standard for green projects, so that unscrupulous contractors don’t “greenwash” the project and claim over inflated results.  All of our projects use one of the ratings systems as a baseline, and we strive to exceed the ratings systems.

For new homes, there are a number of certifications, including the USGBC’s LEED for Homes, the US Department of Energy’s Energy Star program, and the NAHB/GBI’s National Green Building Certification.

For existing homes, there are currently only two certifications available, including Energy Star and the National Green Building Certification.
